When it comes to critical infrastructure, safety isn’t optional — it’s everything. That’s why Applus Pty Ltd engaged AIMS Engineering to complete a full structural analysis and inspection of the Jurien Bay Communication Tower, ensuring its ongoing stability and compliance with Australian Standards.
Engineering Excellence in Action
Using advanced Space GASS modelling software and a Trendspek 3D scan, AIMS Engineering recreated the tower in precise digital form to test its performance under real-world forces — from self-weight and antenna loads to high-velocity coastal winds. Every element was checked against AS4100 Steel Structures and AS1170 Structural Design Actions, covering both strength and serviceability requirements.
What We Found
The analysis showed the tower is structurally sound and stable, with only minor overstress detected in a few leg and bracing members under extreme (Ultimate Limit State) conditions. These results reflect conservative modelling rather than actual field risk. Importantly, the tower’s deflection — 162 mm — is well within acceptable limits, confirming it can safely support ongoing operations.
Recommendations for Long-Term Safety
To maintain performance and prepare for future equipment upgrades, AIMS Engineering recommended:
- Strengthening selected members to boost load capacity
- Regular inspections for corrosion or deformation
- Preventative maintenance to extend service life

AIMS Engineering’s Commitment
From remote towers to major infrastructure, AIMS Engineering applies precision analysis and deep structural expertise to keep Australia’s critical assets safe and compliant.
“Safety is not our top priority — it’s our only priority.”
